THE ISLE OF WIGHT RHEUMATOLOGY TEAM

The Isle of Wight Rheumatology Department is based at the Out Patients Department, St Mary's Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport. They operate clinics Monday to Friday and to obtain an initial appointment you need to be referred to the department by a healthcare professional, i.e your G.P.
The following healthcare professionals make up the Rheumatology team:

Prof Pugh: Consultant Rheumatologist
Dr Linton: Consultant Rheumatologist
Rheumatology Registrar - This position changes on a yearly basis.
G.P Trainee - This position changes every 6 months.

Jayne Kershaw: Rheumatology Nurse Specialist
Liane Worth Rheumatology Nurse Specialist
Caroline Sunderland: Osteoporosis Nurse Specialist
THE EXTENDED HEALTHCARE TEAM
PHYSIOTHERAPIST
You maybe referred to see a Physiotherapist by your consultant, G.P or Rheumatology Nurse at different times for either a short term or longer term treatment. They will help to keep joints mobile and to show you the correct exercises you need to do to keep your muscles strong and flexible.
OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST (O.T)
You maybe referred to see an O.T by your Consultant, G.P or Rheumatology Nurse to help you improve or maintain your ability to do everyday activities. O.T's can help with equipment or adaptions to your home or workplace so that you can maintain your independence. They can also help with hand problems by providing splints and supports.
PODIATRIST (CHIROPODIST)
You maybe referred to see a Podiatrist by your Consultant, G.P or Rheumatology Nurse if you are having problems with your feet or ankles. They can advise on appropriate footwear, fit special insoles to your shoes as well as cut toe nails and manage corns.
